I am an experienced forensic psychiatrist, Board Certified in Forensic Psychiatry since 1994. I have taught forensic psychiatry at the University of Washington Medical Center, Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine. My Ph.D. provides additional expertise in research evaluation, personality theory and social psychology.
I am experienced in both civil and criminal cases. My civil work has included employment discrimination, sexual harassment, personal injury, psychiatric disability, issues of psychiatric diagnosis in family law, civil competencies, and malpractice. Criminal work has included competency, responsibility, and mitigation.
The evaluations I conduct are detailed, and based on a broad database. I make every effort to write objective reports. In most areas of my civil practice, I have conducted evaluations at the request of both plaintiff and defense counsel. I typically conduct psychological testing myself, and I have the relevant training in this area.
Forensic evaluations are typically contracted with an attorney, rather than the person to be examined. An exploratory phone conversation clarifies the exact psychiatric questions to be addressed, whether I possess the relevant areas of psychiatric expertise, whether conflicts of interest exist, and the types of information I need.
I currently do forensic consultations both in the Boulder/Denver and Seattle areas. I am a licensed physician in both Colorado and Washington. My Seattle forensic practice began in 1990, and I have continued to consult there frequently after moving to the Boulder/Denver area in 2006. My Boulder/Denver forensic practice opened in early 2007. I work as a "local expert" in both locales, billing on an hourly basis, and not charging travel time or expenses.
Please see Resume for details of my professional experience. Please call me at (303) 444-2397 if you wish to discuss a case. I can also be reached in the Seattle area at (206) 860-2437, but this phone is not monitored as closely as my Colorado phone.
